Individuals on the autism spectrum have a unique way of processing their world. For many individuals with autism, environmental sounds are confusing, offensive or unintelligible. Their difficulties in understanding and communicating are often compounded by reactive sensory systems that tend to keep them in a heightened state of fight or flight. Science has proven that when an individual is in this state of heightened anxiety, they are not equipped to learn or communicate.
